Where does reportage and visual journalism stand in the world of contemporary Illustration?

This a rough idea of the question I shall be answering in the form of a 5000 word essay for my dissertation. Good luck to me!

Throughout my dissertation I shall be looking at:

• On-the-spot/observation drawing vs. working from photographs and the experience of being on location.
• Authorial (going on location and finding/documenting stories to sell) vs. Commercial (being sent on commission by a company to document a particular story).
• The methods, aesthetics and styles of reportage and visual journalism.
